Why are projector bulbs so expensive?

The amount of mercury in the bulb must be carefully measured to maintain the optimal pressure when it's at full operating capacity. The complexity of High Pressure Mercury Vapor lamps, and the toxicity of the mercury used to produce them, make them expensive to produce.
